Phoenix rear spring rating

Postby stephencoombs » Thu Aug 28, 2025 3:14 pm

Hi,
Does anyone have any advice on spring rating for the Phoenix rear suspension.
After 22 years in the building I've finally got my Stuart Taylor Phoenix through IVA and on the road. I'm getting a lot of bump noise from the rear with AVO dampers on fully soft (worse with a few clicks positive). The kerb weight on the rear axle is 280 kg. I don't have a record of the springs rating supplied by Ian Gray and I'm thinking they might be too soft.
If anyone has any thoughts they would be appreciated.
Thanks
Stephen

I can't remember much about recommended spring rates I'm afraid - seem to recall values like 130/180 lbs/in for road-biased early X/flow Strikers etc with live axles back in the day but configurations have changed so much. I'm sure someone here will be able to advise, though the forum is pretty quiet these days.

The main thing I want to say is well done for getting the car built and on the road - great to hear!
