Had a great day running two separate courses at the Abingdon Car-nival.

I convinced myself, after 2 practise runs, that I could go much faster into the last corner on the Abingdon course

Apparently not, as physics and a lack of talent shows through

This is what it was meant to look like with a more circumspect attempt at the course

And finally this was my fastest time on the other, Bentley, course (52.99secs).

Lots of cars and great fun.

You made good starts on the Bentley and respectable time too . As for the Abingdon course --- few go flat through the last left hander ;)

Looking back at the video and the data I had drop 20mph on the entry (so it wasn't anywhere near as flat out as I thought  ) but the car wouldn't hold at 90MPH, might need to soften the rear dampers to reduce the oversteer. The car actually accelerated on the grass according to the datalogger!.

I need to find a way of getting bigger tyres on the rear and go for a softer compound if I want to get nearer to the fast boys.

Wow Jeff -- 90mph through the last left!! My best data indicates 77mph at the apex and 98 over the line. I just don't have your gonads!

I had a great weekend with my trainee Timekeepers hat on - starting all the 130 cars four times on the Bentley course on Saturday.
Rob was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time & got roped into lining cars up on the start too

Good to see you again Jeff - like you positive mental attitute 8-) - but never enough time to find the 5 mins to say hi properly at these events.
Also had Jonathan Thomas in his Leader & Mike Smith in his Striker competing too.

At least the sprint was dry.... the venue was unrecognisable as the same place on Sunday - with the the Rally being wetter than the Canadian F1GP
We lost 38 of the 100 starters by lunch - with many spins, prangs & junction rebuilds along the way.

Matt

Lol....but I crashed ! The next run when I took it steady was 74mph at the apex and 94 over the line. Certainly 80+ would be possible in the Phoenix and the speed I was doing before scaring the wildlife would be possible on wider super soft tyres.

Jeff , if you've got the results sheet , check out Simon Besant's Abingdon course time . He has the Westy with a Union Jack covering the bonnet . I went on the RAF Motorsport Festival with him and had a spin out in his car (passenger) and it just made me laugh all the way round the Abingdon course they'd set up ---- we were opposite lock into all corners before actually there , it was like a fair ground ride .
