2016 ROPS

Postby David » Fri Apr 01, 2016 3:19 pm

Striker is now back from "hospital" wearing a (very expensive) 50mm dia roll hoop and back stays.

Shouldn't be difficult keeping the rear end on the ground now!

Jeff -- hating confrontation of any sort (so non-competitive), I went for 50mm on the basis that I was less likely to have to prove the wall thickness ;)

I really have trouble finding the use of the word "lovely" apposite -- but will post a piccy.

Hoop, diagonal and backstays now 50mm :(

And -- -- all those tyres in the background are ZZRs

So, I have a heavier car than last year, and (ZZS rather than ZZR) a car which will not corner quite as well.
All in all, slower and less fun to drive!
And, for that I've had to lash out a good season's entry fees on the car mods and tyres. I'm just glad I could; I'm sure many could not.

Do I feel safer with my new ROPS? Having seen the negligible damage (scratches only) to John Bradshaw's cage (identical to my old one) after his chassis-destroying roll a few years ago, I didn't feel unduly unsafe before -- so, no.

Do I have views on the MSA committees which thought up these schemes guaranteed to drive some amateurs out of MSA regulated club motorsport? Of course I do -- they are doing a fine job of it!

I suppose the only possible positive is that I now have one of the most torsionally rigid Strikers ever built :?

I've moved on to Mod Spec Prod and continue to use ZZRs until I get a log book and then it will be slicks.

I hope your experience in ModSpecProd is better than ours was. However, given the number of people who seem to have chosen to stick with ZZRs, you might have all the competition this year and we might be pretty lonely in road-going!

No, I can't either. I did have a play with the link and I couldn't make it work.
