You would think so due to equivalance, I asked the MSA this exact question and their response was

Dear Jeff,

As a sports car below 2000cc actual capacity, the minimum requirement for your vehicle is detailed in K1.6.1(a). K1.6.2 does not apply to your vehicle as it does not comply with the definition of a Sports Racing Car (see Section B: Nomenclature and definitions).

Forward facing stays would only be permitted for a vehicle in this category if the ROPS is certified by the manufacturer. If this is to be considered the manufacturer should contact the Technical Department for advice on the certification procedure.

Can I ask for more details on why you would not be able to fit conventional back stay to the ROPS, as we may be able to advise on possible solutions.

Best Regards
Michael

I was looking for pictures of a Sports Racing Car that I was vaguely interested in purchasing.

I then scrolled forward through the pictures and was quite shocked at what ROPS/seating was being allowed in a race series by the MSA Scrutes. A significant proportion do not meet the standards that are being imposed on road-going kitcars.

How does this guy, for instance, expect to survive being rolled?

And this Radical owner will have a headache at least

Ah, OK. I wonder what their alternative solution in your case may be?

Those cars pictured , and many others in the various classes we see at events , certainly fall short of the required standard

Yes , totally agree . I've been looking at many other rops on race cars with similar shock level. The truth is that this is a political move and not for our safety. In my contact with Michael Duncan , to which I've had no reply , I pleaded the case for my own position but ended up with ----- '' why can vintage race cars ERA for one(capable of 160mph)be raced without any measures for the driver's safety(no harness , hoop or cage) and do so with the MSA's blessing , if it's purely a safety issue ?''
Obviously I do know why (values of the cars , spoiling their original look etc etc)but the MSA are having their cake and eating it by choosing who must be protected
Having been convinced Jeff that maybe I can compete if either K1 or K2 were fitted , I read it through , looked at the drawings BUT still can't see how K2 could be fitted with straight uprights on the front hoop on my car. I assumed those tubes would follow the door hinge then screen angle :o Then those short rear tubes coming down from the rear hoop ---- where would they go :?:

I think I've miss-understood K2 Rob, it is a Rollhoop with odd, braced, rear stays and not the cage I thought it was.

The other alternative it to get someone like Procomp to do a MSA approved cage or Rollhoop Rob.

I did mention the issue with bodywork but was told that if there was structure back there then rear stays where required.

On further reading the second part of this may explain the ROPS in the photos and therefore may be applicable to Fury/Phoenix type cars?

1.6.2. Sports Racing Cars
The rollbar must conform to drawing K1 with diagonal
brace (drawings K6 and K31). Forward facing stays are
permitted for open Sports Racing Cars.
Minimum height 92cm measured along the line of the
driver’s spine from the bottom of the car seat.

Does this make fitment any easier?
