EU Regs and Road Going Tyres

Postby jeffw » Wed Dec 31, 2014 8:18 am

The new EU regs are starting to impact the List 1B tyres as they all seem to fall into the 'G' (worse) category for fuel consumption. The Toyo R888 is being replaced with the R888R, the Avon CR500 is replaced by the ZZS and there is a new version of the ZZR. All to save us 1% of our fuel consumption....while sprinting !

Much as I don't care for the legislation (the good tyres according to the labels are truly awful in reality) does it really matter in sprinting, as surely you're all in the same boat? After all you'll all be on the same list 1b tyres.

To a point that is true, but there will be someone who has stashed away the old 'better' ones. It is likely that I'll end up doing sports libre on slicks if this keeps up...

Given how long they remain in top condition they won't be at an advantage for long and if they've stockpiled them they'll have hardened before use.

Those 1.3 half-shafts might not appreciate slicks?

If they are brand new (ie no heat cycles) and kept dry and cool in the dark then they will probable be good for a few years. And you are right on the drive shaft issue.....!
