I'm in conversation with a company who are designing a HD Type 9 which is rated at the power in the car. Should be a prototype early next year so I may be in a position to test that for them.

Is it going to be sequential?

Certainly not if you have shares in BGH!!

I'd love to go Drenth or Sadev! Maybe I can sell Jeff my Quaife :o
Se7en Pervert -- by definition; I don't drive a Caterham

I'd love a Sadev but it is over £7K +bits and VAT. Caterham has to turn down the Rotrax in the 620R from the 450BHP it is capable of on the Duratec to 330BHP to keep the Sadev in one piece.

Unless I can get someone to sponsor the car it will have to be an H pattern on some description. I 'might' be prepared to stretch to a Quaife 57G as I can get it for around £4K +VAT but that would be it.

Nope, H pattern synchro in a Type 9 case. Designed to be good for 350BHP and 350 ft lbs which is why I might get to test the prototype.

To be fair the E8 BGH box has lasted most of the season and it was the bumps at NW which killed it (2nd time) so I'll simple not compete there again.

Is there actually a type 9 style of box that will take the power that you have ?
I thought you were at 400bhp the 57g states 375bhp, it'll go pop eventually, wont it?

maybe you have to go for a bit of tunnel chopping and squeeze in a T5 might be cheaper in the long run. Im guessing that the T5 is up to the job and the passengers need only be small.

The alternative could be follow in the footsteps of Caterham and what Adi said and turn the wick down a little.
Just a thought.

It isn't power that kills gearboxes, it is torque. The BGH E8 is rated to 250 ft lbs, the Phoenix puts out 280 ft lbs....so on a smooth surface it is ok. The Quaife 57G (and 56G/60G) is rated at 350 ft lb & 350 BHP so that would be fine. If this new T9 HD box is able to do those figures it will be fine as well.

Borg Warner T5s are very scarce now for good ones and rebuilding them is an issue as there are no 5th gears left on the shelf....and you need to cut 5th off to get the box open. So, with the tunnel modifications, this is not an option either.
