Blyton 12/13 July

Organised by the Westfield Sports Car Club -- but no restriction to Westies. Three Strikers and a Phoenix present.

Good organization; great fun; JPSCs acquitted themselves well 8-) -- especially considering how many national class drivers the WSCC legitimately boasts.

I don't know who sold their soul to ensure dry track and (nearly all) sunshine for the weekend, but I take my helmet off to you.

My fastest run of the weekend (70.43)

Had a number of issues with my supersoft ZZRs (put the front right through to the steel reinforcement) and changed them for the Mediums and went 2 secs faster. Car is very loose as the tyres where not upto temp

Cameo appearance by the Hussey Clan at the end.... :D

Medium zzrs or something else? What does that say for them then, 2 seconds is a lot

Medium ZZRs. My A24 ZZRs where knackered but I thought it was only the backs and that I could get another weekend out of them....wrong. The offside front locked up and has gone through to the steel but I think this is caused by numerous lock-ups in the same place. Should have been well into the 60s but only managed 70.43.

Now the decision is more A24 ZZRs or Kumho V70 K11 ....and where to buy the Kumhos from

Like our engine, our video recording is much less high tech than Jeff's -- but here are our efforts . . . . .

Our Striker has a normally aspirated Vauxhall 1600cc engine which is linked to the road via a Quaife 60G gearbox, a 4.41 ZF LSD and 215/55-13 Avon ZZR (A24) tyres (185/55-13 at the front). The comparison to Jeff's video is marked: having only half the power of Jeff's car means we are slower on the straights (about 110 mph max before the chicane) but that our car is less of a handful in the corners.

My (whitish overalls) best effort (featuring (like Jeff) a worthwhile mistake on the exit of Bishops  ) is at: http://youtu.be/y2svjeTgrwc

Son Chris (blue overalls) then shows me how it should be done: http://youtu.be/90Luoan1vPc

great videos and also very interesting difference in driving styles.

in my few months sabbatical I have been looking at this very closely.

Not sure it shows a driving 'style' difference but rather a complete lack of grip on a set of old Medium compound ZZRs. Every corner I was having to back off the throttle and opposite lock it to some extent. The run in the video was the first run on the Meds so I had no reference. The Car (and I) should have been well in the 67sec mark so under performed.

Fresh boots required for Combe/Debden/Goodwood/Hethel :) (3 tracks that suit the car and one that doesn't !)

Simon

The results are available in pdf format (and I've no idea how to attach them here).

If you PM me your email address, I'll whizz them across to you.
