[quote="David"]JPSCs were represented by David and Stuart Bickley in a very pretty BEC Phoenix, and by Emma Bennison in a neat Peugeot engined Striker -- the latter going creditably fast considering she was held in place by several (by the end, rather soggy) household cushions!

Nothing wrong with cushions David, although mine are OMP :D .

Nice to see Emma out in a Striker. Has Emma sold her Westfield? as she was asking about Strikers at Silverstone earlier in the season. Or was she trying the Striker out, to help make her mind up?

We are out in the Striker for the next three weekends, Anglesey 3rd/4th, Three Sisters 11th and Shelsley 17th/18th.The entry lists for Anglesey and Shelsley Walsh have come through. JP has his name down for Anglesey, so that should be a good battle and John Bradshaw is down for Shelsley in his Striker. I just hope the weather is kind to us!

Regards,

David.

Hi David

My understanding is that Emma has owned the Striker for about a month. I didn't ask about the Westy, but I inferred from the way she was talking that it had gone. She is definitely looking for a better seating solution (preferably without giving a lot of her hard-earned to Tillett). Some good pics of Emma in action in Roger's gallery.

Forecast for this week is kindly IIRC. Sorry I won't be joining you in Anglesey -- the horror of a nearly 8 hour tow in each direction on the last weekend of the school holidays overcomes even the attractions of Trac Mon. Should be a great contest, especially if JL is there too.

Best wishes, David

Anglesey 3/4th September, 2 laps of the national circuit.

On Saturday it rained all day!

I signed on at 8am to discover that John Palmer had withdrawn, which left the class with seven runners. Jim and myself in the Striker, John Loudon, Stu Hill, Ian Davenport and Alan Caldecourt in their respective Westfield’s and Graham Cashmore in his very nice Davrian Mk6.

Practice consisted of one run over the two lap course. The top three in class after practice were, myself on 137.12, Jim on a 140.41 and John Loudon on a 143.22.

Next up were the timed runs, after the first of which, the first three in class remained the same with the times coming down to 135.67, 137.47 and 141.10. It was decided that the next timed run would be the last of the day as the weather was getting worse and time was running out. On the final run I had a big moment going in to ‘School corner’ and could only manage a time of 152.92. Jim managed to complete his run in 147.81 and John recorded a time of 158.91. So I managed to hold on for the class win, and my best time of 135.67 was good enough for 6th overall :D , with Jim 9th and John 14th out of 90 runners.

FTD was set by Paul Masters in his Jedi Mk6 at 127.03 next up was Matt Hillam with 129.86, Tim Nunn 130.97, Terry Everall 131.03 and Mark Anson 132.90 who were all in Westfield’s.

On Sunday the sun came out for the majority of the day, but it was never far away from a cloud!

It was straight in to the timed runs on Sunday and once again we only managed to get three runs in! To be honest that turned out to be a blessing as it started to rain as the last few cars finished their final run. And boy did it rain!

On my first run I caught the car in front and had to take a re run. On the re run I managed to hit the tyres positioned on the inside of ‘Rocket 1’ with my nearside front wheel. This pushed the mudguard in to the tyre and required me to stop on the circuit to pull it away from the tyre. We now have a nice cut in the circumference of the tyre where the bolt holding the mudguard in place was pushed in to the tyre. We managed to repair the mudguard and Jim went out and recorded a 117.32 to top the class with John Loudon next on a 117.72 and Ian Davenport third with a 125.33. After the run we checked the car over again to make sure it was ok and found that the bolt in the bottom ball joint had bent, so we changed it for a new one!!! After the next run the top three in class were Jim on a 116.58, John on a 117.35 and me with a 118.27.

For the final run of the day I ended up with a re run again after I caught the car in front, which happened to be the Davrian. For some unknown reason the Davrian was moved in front of me for this run when it had spent all the previous ones behind me in the correct class order? Anyway the extra run did me a favour as I was able to put a decent run together to post a time of 116.38(class record) for the class win. Jim did a final of 117.27 and John a 117.75. My best time of 116.38 was good enough for 15th overall, Jim’s time of 116.58 claimed 17th overall and John’s 117.35 clinched 20th overall out of 99 runners.

FTD on Sunday was a 102.47 by John Graham in his Dallara F397

Next outing is at Three Sisters on Sunday 11th September.

Regards,

David.

Good report David -- much better than anything which has so far appeared on the Westy site. I've taken the liberty of posting a link there.

Brands today. JPSCs represented by Kevin and Liz Padley (Stylus), Jeff W (Phoenix) and Chris (Striker). Good fun had by all, and some modest success attained. "Mistake of the day award" goes to Jeff, who brought son James with him -- and let him talk to Chris :o

Very good video Jeff, but for those who've never done it, no vid can fully convey the feeling of going over the brow into Paddock as fast as you dare, then feeling the car go horribly light as you "fall" down the right-hander trying to judge when the power may be reapplied without causing a trip to the beach. Absolutely wonderful circuit :D :o :D

Having gone through Paddock around 95mph in an aero equiped car 73-75 seems tame....until you try and go faster!. Certainly with warm tyres I can get through at around 80 tops but anything more is a trip to the barrier. I hadn't realised I almost hit 120 before braking for Paddock.

This is the datalog for the flying lap part into Paddock. You can see peak speed (118) then braking (including the bump) then hard lateral G (peak is 1.3) force which varies as the back-end unsticks and then power upto Druids, brake, turn and then down Graham Hill. Always interesting to see gearchanges and bumps under braking etc
