Hello all,

As David has mentioned it's that time of year again, finally Marmelade came out of the garage and we headed off on a short trip across Suffolk to RAF Honington to join the Borough 19 guys for thier second sprint of the season.

The day started with relaxed trundling up and down the service roads learning how to use the new gearbox and after a stroll round the course and a bacon roll to recover it was time to go out and play. One we had learnt to use the gearbox it was FANTASTIC, even better than the first run out on the Avon ACB 10's which is saying something!

so anyway you dont want to read about it you want to watch it so here is David taking you mostly round RAF Honington

unfortunately the gearbox was made of chocolate and it was a warm day :( :( oh dear.
big lads have more mechanical grip

Very nice - hope the repair bill is not too expensive.

After being on their reserves list for a week , I now have an entry to BRMC Goodwood sprint this Saturday in class 11 / sports libre . There's an interesting MK1 Escort in my class(well , it looks like an Escort but underneath the lift off front/rear body there's a space framed 625kgs race car -- 2lt Zetec American spec ' running 270bhp ish - undeclared and on slicks  )
Soooo -- that'll be fun :P

Dare not go to Goodwood; too many noise-polizisten. Since we have had to use the front half of the can for the cat, Marmelade's too loud.
Also, I don't have adequately large gonads for it -- I've never beaten 97s, but son Guy (now in 750MC Kits) has been round in under 92s in my car!

Good luck though; gorgeous circuit, lovely atmosphere.

I did a 93 sec's testing there on the 6th April (their usual general test days every first Tuesday per month) and my PB at Goodwood is 91.6 sec's but I've not repeated it recently -- getting old see  Don't know what your normal DB's come out at but Goodwood's static is 105 db's on sprint events and testing. What do you pack your silencer with :?: I used E Glass for years , re-packing almost for each event but then in 2006 I discovered BASALT at £35 a bag . It takes half a bag to fill my 22 inch x 6 inch can which has a 2.75inch through pipe . I very rarely get measured at any more than 102db's now depending on who does it plus the weather influence but at the last Goodwood test it came out at 99db's :o It's a 2lt zetec on TB's giving 231bhp

Rob

It's packed with whatever Simpsons put into it -- silencer and cat were new for the regs change last year. my 1600 VX (205bhp) came out at 106dB (at 5000 rpm) at Honington on Sunday.

Good tip about the basalt. Where do you get it? And is it heavy?

David , it's no heavier than e-glass or other packings . I got it after chatting with the F1 size hillclimb boys -- one of them owned TECHCRAFT Tel. 01926403721 . There is a knack to packing it. Be very careful not to leave voids but even more important is not to pack it too tightly. Feed a little at a time in a circle around the inner pipe then with thumb and fingers prod it gently with a 1/2 inch dowling rod -- just to feel resistance NOT to compress ;) I packed mine 3 years ago and still have the other half bag left -- never touched it since . Having said that I normally cut max rev's to 7000 rpm when asked for the red line

Last year the Stylus still had bruises for the BOGNOR REGIS SPRINT at Goodwood so didn't run but I'd won the Sports Libre class in 2008 , so yesterday it was great to win again running less bhp than the 2nd guy and no slicks(he had new wheels and wider slicks this year) --- bloody good these R888's ;)
Not my PB time though at 97sec's standing start single lap

I'll be back there on May 15th though sprinting with the CLASSIC TOURING RACING CAR CLUB then Abingdon Carnival on June 12th.
