Well didn't get a whole heap accomplished, other than moving the car off the trailer into the garage, much to the disappointment of the 205, which is now outside on the trailer, awaiting a new waterproof cover!
fitted the new ignition switch, stuck an old battery on, which i thought was ok, but 4v whilst cranking was conclusive to starting, but there's some pictures.

So work and jobs to do.. . . . .
want to rid the car of the blue stripes
fit a fuel sender and gauge instead of the racetech ammeter
mount the fan properly [tho it is secure!]
have a new indicator lens already
awaiting front number plate
needs air filters for sure, trumpets would be nice
Not keen on the coolant system, pressure cap on the rad and the XR2 filler cap, but an unpressurised expansion tank. I guess it must work, we'll see
surely will need an electric pump and pressure regulator
need to bleed the brakes and change the oil, check the brakes, check box and diff levels, check the geometry
paint the hood bar
needs mirrors -any suggestions?
not convinced by the round holes in the nose cone, might cut them out and either leave open or fit some mesh
there's what appears expanding foam on the rear arch, should come off easily
suspension is 1 and 2 clicks off from hardest, might be interesting to drive
Need a battery, any budget suggestions
Alternator bracket is broken, i wonder if the pulley is running out. had this issue on a Mk1 XR2 many years ago. will make a new bracket I think
On my first Striker I shortened the trafficator arms and turned up some nice ones in ally, no i have a lathe may well have a go at doing the same. tho' my lathe is WW2 I think!
Need to bend the wiper arm to get it to sit horizontal when parked
would be nice to polish the wheels and then lacquer them

there's quite a few things there, for a 5 min look over!

Not going to be much action for a while, I mostly butchered my hand on the bandsaw late this afternoon and 11 stitches later I'm lucky to still have the use of all my fingers,

here's some pics

seems it's used by Caterham owners with success, tho' there's no CCA [cold cranking amps] stated

I put round holes in the front of my bonnet, for road use they are covered by the number plate but on track I take the plate off for a little extra cooling :D

Ouch! That could have called for a change of user name.

Looks like it could be a good buy once you iron out the kinks.

yes, nearly Phil7fingers and yes I have reminded myself how lucky I am and also the word tw@t has come to mind a number of times today

car isn't bad at all by any means, I like tinkering, I'm sure it will run fine as it is. it's not going to take anywhere near as long as the Phoenix either, build quality is in a different league. Famous last words. .. .

Got more info on the car as I've been in touch with the builder.
Engine has a 234 cam, BVH, L&B, pocketed pistons, vernier timing gear. 3.9 diff, non LSD. it was registered 2 weeks pre SVA apparently in a rush as it hadn't been built to comply. Apparently it's in pretty much the same state as it was when the last owner drove it away one bitterly cold november night for a good 2 hr drive home! Less the airfilters which seem to have disappeared. So this week I got the new battery, electric ZX9R fuel pump, no plate, indicator. Hopefully will try and have it running this w/e

Well my hand improved so I did a little Saturday evening
Made a bracket out of scrap bin parts, some ally channel and st/st sheet basically, to mount the pump on the transverse chassis rail above the fuel tank. Made it to hold the pump as it is on the bike, on two tabs basically, also got in with the drill, so nutsert'd it. Plumbing was easy, all the bends in the factory Kawasaki hoses in the right place. Run from a separate battery for now, until I sort the wiring. Primed up quickly and slowed to a very occasional 'tick', so no leaks. Wouldn't start yesterday tho, i suspect fuel is very old, need to check plugs and firing is OK really.

Well, it runs!
Fitted the dizzy and set the static timing to about 8deg. Wouldn't start. Spark at all four plugs.
Did a cold compression test and was a bit frightening at
#1 91psi
#2 92
#3 94
#4 140!

Never done a cold test but as I'd never seen the engine run seemed sensible to rule out holed pistons et al

Bit of coaxing, drain the old fuel from the float chambers, a best guess and set the float height to 9mm, stimulated the floats and chambers got more fuel. Then it fired, let it run in the closed garage until I couldn't breathe [about 5mins]then did another test
#1 185psi
#2 181
#3 190
#4 192!

better! Wasn't smoking at all, garage floor covered in rust from the silencer. rad leaking all along the top crimped on edge. Not sure if there's a seal in there that can be replaced or not? Or go for a later rad? the rest of it looks in good condition.
Had about 4bar oil pressure at tickover.
Will strip the carbs properly and run them through my ultrasonic tank. Now I know the motor's ok I can get on with the rest of the little jobs
